Meat price rises

Although Georgia's ruling administration claim that a global increase has caused an increase in the meat price in Georgia, analysts suggest that this was actually caused by the export of sheep and cattle from Georgia. In 2010 for instance Georgia exported cattle to Azerbaijan, Lebanon, Egypt, Armenia and Turkey. Georgia also exported sheep and goats to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Qatar and UAE. Farmers are happy to sell their cattle and sheep to foreigners because they pay more however the deficit of cattle and sheep is resulting in higher domestic prices, think Georgian analysts.
