Leader of Georgia’s Green Country Giorgi Gachechiladze made a statement recently about a dangerous situation on the Georgian Black Sea coast line. The sea is eroding a serious amount of land. The major concern of Gachechiladze is building of a dam in the river of Chorokhi in Turkish territory. According to him, Chorokhi was carrying sand and stone into the Black Sea and this was naturally distributed along the Georgian coastline. So the natural supply of appropriate materials has been stopped by the dam and has created a dangerous situation for the coastline as the sea is moving deeper into the shore. He named the villages of Angi and Adlia where sea water had covered the yards and houses with water already. The same situation is threatening Anaklia territory, close to where Enguri River joins the Black sea. The Greens leader suggests that before implementing any new projects on new infrastructure, the authorities should seek consultations from experts and environmental specialists. Gachechiladze mentioned that in the town of Poti the sea entered 1 km inside the land covering Poti hippodrome, land and houses in the area. The issue is very important for the country and it should receive more attention.
