As Giorgi Tugushi, Public Defender, mentioned, there are cases in Georgia where a serious illness of one of the members of the family could lead to a life in poverty. In his report of parliament, the public defender criticizes the current healthcare system because of the severe financial burden it places on the vulnerable population of Georgia. The report reveals the public defender's concern over the situation in the health care protection system. Today there are 26 state programmes for healthcare. All of them are targeted at certain groups but unfortunately they do not embrace the whole of the population.
