School Resource Officers have been fulfilling their Tasks for a Year

Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini summarized the activities of the School Resource Officers who have been performing their duties at schools for a year. According to the announcement of the Minister, after the School Resource Officers began their activities at the schools, the situation has improved significantly: violence at schools decreased by 95%, fewer schoolchildren are coming late (80% decrease); cases of skipping the classes were dropped by 75%. There is also a decrease (80%) in fighting among the schoolchildren, vandalism cases have dropped by 90% as well.

In 2010 on 12 April, the School Resource Officers commenced their activities at 10 pilot public schools of Tbilisi. In the beginning of the 2010-1011 academic year, School Resource Officers were placed in other schools of the different cities of Georgia. Running parallel to Tbilisi, School Resource Officers also started to fulfill their tasks at the public schools of the regions of Georgia.

Currently, 1000 School Resource Officers control the safety of 300 schools in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Poti, Gori, Rustavi and Kvareli.

Resource Officers also work at Private schools. By the decision of 10 private schools, the School Resource Officers have been placed at their schools to ensure the safe learning environment.

10 private school principals expressed their interest in placing School Resource officers at their schools from May, 2011.
