Black and Caspian Seas Regional Action Strategy approved at TRACECA meeting

The draft text of a Regional Action Strategy aimed at improving vessel traffic conditions and the environment in the Black and Caspian Seas by 2021 has been approved at meeting of the TRACECA Permanent Secretariat.

The Regional Action Plan on Maritime Safety, Security and Ship Pollution Prevention for the Black and Caspian Seas, which falls under the umbrella of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) Programme, was developed by a team of EU-funded experts from the SASEPOL project, with contributions from TRACECA.

The final version will be submitted for approval to the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission during their meeting in November in Bucharest.

Development of Common Security Management System and Cooperation in the Area of Maritime Safety and Ship Pollution Prevention for the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea (SASEPOL) is a ˆ3.4 million EU-funded project to improve the adoption of international legislative frameworks and conventions for maritime transport, security and environmental protection in Black and Caspian Sea countries such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.

TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) is an international transport cooperation programme between the EU and its Partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. It has a permanent Secretariat in Baku, Azerbaijan. The cooperation framework covers the areas of maritime transport, aviation, road and rail, transport security, and transport infrastructure.
