Political party funding and women’s participation in politics discussed in Tbilisi

A two-day roundtable meeting on political party funding and women’s participation in Georgia’s political life was launched at Courtyard Marriott hotel on Wednesday. The roundtable is organized by the Georgian Central Election Commission, the OSCE office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights in cooperation with Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy and International Foundation for Electoral systems.

Representatives of the CEC, as well as of the Georgian Parliament, several political parties, international and local NGOs and of the civil society attended the first day of the roundtable meeting. The sides discussed the issue of funding of political parties, talked about how far the state subsidies should increase and means of monitoring on political party funding process.

Today the roundtable participants are examining the issues concerning the gender balance in the Georgian politics. Ruling Party MP, Parliament Vice Speaker, Rusudan Kervalishvili is expected to make the opening remarks at the meeting.
