The Chairman of Parliament and the Ambassador of USA to Georgia concluded the Memorandum on Opening the Communication Centre in the Parliament

The Communication Centre will be open in Parliament under the auspices of the National-Democratic Institute (NDI), the partner of the United States Agency of International Development (USAID). The Chairman of Parliament, David Bakradze and the Ambassador of USA, John Bass concluded the Memorandum on this issue.

The Communication Centre of Parliament is the additional component to the "Parliamentary Support Project”, which is aimed to approximation of Parliament to the society through media. "The Communication Centre will enable the Members of Parliament to better communicate with the constituencies through the regional Televisions and Internet media. The aim of this project is increase of efficiency of Parliament, improvement of transparency and enhancement of oversight role of Parliament”, - John Bass noted.

As the Chairman of Parliament evaluated, opening of the Communication Centre is the significant event and is the part of the democratic reforms, ongoing in the country. "We, along the with American partners, launched one more new project, the aim of which is on the one hand to help our society better see the activity of the Parliament, what laws are adopted and what is the impact of these laws on everyday life of our society and the country and on the other hand, to help the regional televisions, which do not have capacity to permanently send the accredited journalists to the Parliament, to obtain the objective information directly by the MPs and then introduce it to the population of the region”, - David Bakradze stated.

The representative of NDI, Louis Navarro, the Members of Parliament, staff members of the Parliament and invited guests attended signing of the Memorandum.

The Chairman of Parliament and the Ambassador of USA granted certificates to the alumni of Parliamentary Internship Program of 2010-2011, who passed internship with support of the USAID Parliamentary support program.
