New yellow mini buses have appeared in Tbilisi and soon all mini buses will be replaced by new models in the capital. At the first stage 36 Ford minibuses will serve only the number 4 route and after some time the whole city will be covered by new, modern public transport. However not all of the citizens are satisfied with this development as the fee will increase from 50 tetris to 80 tetris. The system will be the same as in the municipal transports in underground and buses with the use of plastic cards, although the first journey will cost 80 tetri, the second, in the same day 65 tertri.

The people living below the poverty line will be able to pay half of the fare expenses, the other half will be covered by the City Hall.

The issue as to why transportation costs are increasing on new mini buses has not been fully answered. News Agency Pirweli writes that a representative from Tbilisi Minibus Company told them that price is determined by fuel price, however after one journalist’s remark that the fuel price has not increased anywhere in the world including Georgia, this company representatives declined to make more comments about the issue.

Now, if a person was spending GEL 1 per day for travel, they will now pay GEL 1 and 45 Tetris for the same return journey.
