Georgian President and the First Lady attended Otto Habsburg funeral

Monday, July 18
Otto Habsburg, the eldest son of the last Austro-Hungarian emperor, was buried at Vienna`s Imperial Crypt Saturday in a funeral attended by royals and political leaders from across Europe.

The funeral, for which thousands of Austrians and tourists lined the streets of the historical city centre, marks the end of a week of ceremony to honour Habsburg, who died on July 4 at his Bavarian home aged 98.

His body will be buried in the crypt of his ancestors in the Austrian capital, but Habsburg`s heart will find a separate resting place in the Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma in northwest Hungary in a private family ceremony on Sunday, in accordance with his last wishes.

His wife Regina, who died last year, will be reburied beside him.

Otto Habsburg visited Georgia in 2008. As reported, he also fought alongside Georgian officers against the communists in the Spanish civil war in the 1930s.

His daughter Gabriela, received Georgian citizenship, studied the Georgian language and became ambassador of Georgia to Germany.

Georgia`s President Mikheil Saakashvili, along with his wife, also attended the burial ceremony in Vienna.
