Caspian gas competes in Russia

Recent claims that Azerbaijan could increase its production of gas in the world markets undermine the leading position of Russian giant Gazprom in the European markets. Some years ago Azerbaijan imported gas from Russia but today it exports its gas to Russia. Azerbaijan not only produces gas but sells it at a competitive price and Russia stopped being the sole provider of gas into Europe. If they established a serious link in Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan then Europe will be receiving extra gas from this source via Azerbaijan to satisfy its needs. This is of course causing some serious irritation for Russia.
