Georgian campaign aims to revive national tradition of volunteering

Tuesday, July 26
A new project to increase awareness about the importance of volunteering has been launched in Georgia. The initiative, entitled ‘Together We Can Make a Difference! Promoting the Spirit and Action of Volunteering’ is funded by the European Union Delegation to Georgia.

The overall objective is to build upon the ancient Georgian tradition of Nadi, or providing volunteer help and assistance, and to emphasise the relevance and value of this practice in modern life.

Specific activities will include a series of voluntary clean-ups and a plastic bag awareness campaign in Tbilisi. Presentations will also be given in schools, focusing on environmental responsibility.

The first clean-up will take place in Gergeti on 30 July, with volunteers recruited from Tbilisi, Gergeti and Stepantsminda. The project is being implemented under the aegis of the European Year of Volunteering. (ENPI Info Centre)
