In 2011 Armenia expects a 20% growth in its tourism industry. As the tourism department stated in 2009 there was very small increase of tourism inflow due to the political and economic situation, but recently situation has improved. In 2010 Armenia was visited by around 700,000 tourists. Previously around 60% of the foreigners visiting Armenia were descendents of ethnic Armenians which had moved abroad and were interested in becoming acquainted with the historic homeland of their parents. Currently more foreigners who aren't necessarily of Armenian origin visit the country. Armenia is involved in international tourism organizations and now new destinations are being combined with Georgian sites as well.
