New wine production center in Adjara

Tuesday, September 6
The President of Georgia and the Head of the Government of the Adjara Autonomous Republic toured the new facility of The House of Adjaran Wine in Keda, in the Adjara Region. In addition to a wine production facility there is a Chkhaveri vineyard, several wine tasting halls, a wine cellar and a restaurant.

"This is the best Georgian wine I have ever tasted. Chkhaveri will seriously compete with other famous Georgian and European varieties. In spite of the Russian embargo, wine exports have increased, which is very interesting. For example, we used to export 1 million bottles of wine per year to Ukraine, but this year we'll export 8 million and 10 million next year. The same increases are expected regarding exports to Belarus and many other countries," President Saakashvili said.

The construction of the facility began in September 2010 and it will finish before the beginning of this year's harvest, in approximately one month. The House of Adjaran Wine will produce 100,000 bottles annually of Chkhaveri, Tsolikauri and Tskriala wines, using Georgian and European technologies.

Wine tours will be organized for tourists that will include a tour of the vineyards, the wine cellar, a European production line, and the bottling process. They will taste newly-produced wine while enjoying local dishes.
