Rugby in Juveniles’ Penitentiary Establishment

Juvenile inmates and players of the youth rugby team “Lelo” held a friendly match.

The Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance, Khatuna Kalmakhelidze, and representatives of UNICEF attended the game.

The rugby team was formed in March of this year in the Juveniles' Penitentiary Establishment.

The team consists of 30 players trained by coaches from the Georgian Rugby Federation.

The TV channel “Total Rugby” has expressed its interest in the project and has made a program about it which will help support the rehabilitation process and encourage a healthy lifestyle among the young inmates.

Involving young offenders in sports activities and supporting their rehabilitation and educational process is among the top priorities of the MCLA.
