Last week Shota Rustaveli National Theatre opened its 133th season with a premiere of the tragicomic and long awaited The Hunting Season staged by the former artistic director of the theatre, Robert Sturua, who participated in the Georgian showcase event on September 29. Sturua’s play accompanied with Gia Kancheli’s music tells an enchanting story of a young actress who is lost in her dreams. Trying to find herself in the chaotic modern world, Ia, the main character, tries to recollect her past.

The extraordinary piece of art arouses lots of questions. The scenes the play create parallels with important events in world history which have significant reflection on today’s society. Surrounded by unknown ghosts, Ia finally finds the prince of her dreams. The play is highly recommended, leaving the sensation that great art is made of mysteries. Sellout audiences for The Hunting Season, and the general response from the audience, prove Robert Sturua’s talent once again.
