Lake Sevan is top of the agenda in terms of Armenia’s ecological problems. By October 1, 2011 the level of Lake Sevan has gone up. A program to rescue Sevan is being implemented. This is the biggest reservoir of fresh drinking water and generally the biggest reservoir in the whole Middle Eastern region.

In the 1930s century a controversial decision was taken to utilize Sevan Lake water for creating electric energy which decreased the level of the water in the lake by 18 meters. Later some steps were taken to rescue the lake. However, then Lake Sevan's rise in level created some problems as it covered forests and reached even motorways and other infrastructure. Scholars and experts attentively monitor the situation around the lake and its problems.
