Water Treatment Facility in Borjomi

Monday, October 10
European standard water-treatment facilities are being built in resort and tourist regions of Georgia. The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Ramaz Nikolaishvili, has visited current construction works of water treatment facility in Borjomi.

The water supply issue has been an important problem for the resort for many years. The residents and tourists of the resort, which is rich in mineral waters, had an unstable water supply schedule for many years.

A water treatment facility with 12 filters is being built in Borjomi now. The building will be equipped with a modern computer system and will be able to filter 140 liters of water per second. This amount of water will be enough for Borjomi residents and holidaymakers. The company "New Energy" implements the project with funding from the World Bank and the government, coordinating with the Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.

The building is the second water treatment facility in Georgia to be constructed with modern European technology. Such a multi-functional water treatment facility building was also constructed last year in Bakuriani by the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure and is successfully operating now. The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure plans to build such modern European water treatment buildings in other municipalities and cities of Georgia.

After the construction of the water treatment facility the next step is the connection of the facility to the Borjomi water network. The rehabilitation of that network was carried out last year with the coordination of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure. The internal water network has been changed, and as a result of this 80% of the population has a 24-hour water supply while 20% have a stable water supply daily for 8-10 hours.

On the finished and ongoing water supply rehabilitation works in Borjomi, 400 people are employed, most of whom are local residents.
