Sokhumi Konstantine Gamsakhurdia Theatre opened its 126th season with a premiere on October 14. Homo Morales staged by Beka Kavtaradze is about the absurdity of wars in general. The psychological plot accompanied with impressive music captivated the hall. Encouraging everyone to stay away from weapons, Beka Kavtaradze is concerned about the fates of people participating in wars. “It would be good if people would follow human rules and reject war with one another, because a war can never be justified - it always sacrifices innocent lives,” the director told The Messenger worrying that, unfortunately, Georgia also became engaged in the tragedy of war, which remains a terrible bacillus in Georgian society.

Mirza Machitidze, plays a soldier who is a hero of a civil war in the play. His personal tragedy forced him to participate in the war and take revenge on his enemies. But immediately after taking the gun in his hands he became a usual killer and finally lost his happiness. “This man couldn’t realize the wisdom of showing the other cheek after a hard slap, thus he became miserable forever. Such people can never be strong… the only thing they have left in their lives is death. This soldier is also looking for a man who would kill him,” Machitidze said adding that his character was so cowardly, that he even fails to commit suicide.

Merab Brekashvili, Managing Director of Sokhumi Theatre shared the plans of the troupe with The Messenger. “Gocha Kapanadze is working on a play which will be premiered this November, but this season we will also have an impressive surprise for our audience which I will keep secret” Brekashvili told us welcoming the reaction to the play.
