President visits an ice rink in Kutaisi

Tuesday, October 18
The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, toured a newly-built ice rink, which is part of a modern sports complex, during his visit to Kutaisi. As Saakashvili noted, considering the local climatic conditions, such recreation centers will assist in reducing respiratory disease symptoms in children. The president also talked about the importance of future projects and noted that very soon modern ice rinks of Olympic standard will be built in Tbilisi and Zugdidi. “This is a dream come true for me and for these children,” noted Saakashvili while skating with children during his visit to the ice palace.

“There is poverty and unemployment all around. I just spoke with people of little means, but these children will come here every day and share innovations just as they do in Norway, Netherlands, England and America, and will grow up with a different psychology. Children are raised with a completely different mentality now in our country,” said the president. “Today adolescents have good computers and great classrooms, they play on good artificial fields and skate in ice rinks, all of which assures a healthy generation,” stated Saakashvili. The ice rink is stretched over a 600 square meter area. In addition to the ice rink, the sports complex consists of a gymnasium, massage rooms and well-accommodated shower rooms.
