Has election campaigning begun?

Tbilisi City Hall began distributing transport vouchers to Tbilisi residents, Rezonansi writes. Vouchers of GEL 5 were available for everyone who uses a transportation card. Activation of this amount of money will be available in every metro station. The initiator of this is Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava who most probably will be a candidate for the presidential election from the ruling party. The question has occurred then, whether this is part of election campaigning from his side.

Lawyer Shalva Shavgulidze: I have just heard this news. Certainly it is not a bad idea to allot a certain amount of money for people. I wish it were a lot more money, GEL 40-50, and distribute it across the whole of Georgia. This would be fair."

Writer Rezo Mishveladze says that a spark of happiness appeared in Georgian society where, the writer claims, 74% of people are unemployed currently. "Whether this is a part of an election campaign or not, one thing is clear: after the appearance of Bidzina Ivanishvili the authorities are trying to score PR points and in order to gain support from the population take such steps,” he said.

Photo contest winners revealed

A photo contest named “Beautiful Svaneti” and “I go to school,” announced for Facebook users, began some time ago and the winners have now been revealed, 24 Hours reports.

A third grader of the Georgian University's construction faculty's president’s scholarship, Giorgi Putkardaze, and a teacher of Biology, Khatuna Gogoladze, won and were granted portable computers produced in Georgia.

Recently, reconstructed Svaneti has become a destination not only for foreigners, but for many Georgians as well. This fact inspired the decision to propose the photo contest for Facebook users on the very relevant topic, with the title: “Beautiful Svaneti”. The photo contest with the title: “I go to school” was dedicated to the start of the new academic year.

More contests will be announced in future as well.
