Monday, November 7
The President of Georgia and the Minister of Agriculture talked about the international success of the Georgian wine from Kvareli last week. The President of Georgia found out about the results of the Hong Kong International Contest of Wine and Alcoholic Beverages live online, from the Director of the National Investment Agency. According to Ketevan Bochorishvili, among more than 8 thousand wines of 930 companies registered in 37 countries participating, the Georgian “Saperavi,” aged in an oak barrel since 2006 at the “Kindzmarauli Marani” Company, has received the Grand Prize. During the live conversation with the President, she also mentioned that Georgian wine will enjoy free advertisement throughout Asia for a period of one year and the most famous publications will write about it. Georgian wine was represented at an Asian market for the first time, which was a major success.

“The factory that won the Grand Prize is a few kilometers away from here. The Hong Kong wine market is the main wine market in China. Now this wine will conquer the local market. We will export 60 million USD worth of wine this year. I think that with a good marketing campaign, we can export 75 million USD worth of wine next year and 100 million USD worth of wine the following year. We exported 50 million USD worth of wine right before the Russian embargo. The wine that received the Grand Prize today was produced in 2006 and was embargoed by Russia in 2006. This means that the wine that Russia rejected has received the Grand Prize in the most prestigious exhibition in the world” – stated the President of Georgia.

16 Georgian types of products have received the highest awards. "Chacha," produced by "Chateau Mukhrani" and "Saperavi" produced by "Kindzmarauli Marani" have received gold medals; "Tsolikauri," produced by the "Kakhetian Traditional Winery," has received a silver medal; the other 13 types, of which two are "Tskriala", three brands and eight wines, have received bronze medals.

There are 37 types of products from 11 Georgian companies represented at this exhibition, one of the most influential contests worldwide.

The Hong Kong International Contest of Wine and Alcoholic Beverages began today and will last until November 5.
