Boycotting Maestro TV

24 Hours reports that the Labour Party and its leader Shalva Natelashvili have declared a boycott against TV channel Maestro due to its campaign against Shalva Natelashvili. “Maestro has become a supporter of Saakashvili and Ivanishvili, and has begun a shameful campaign against the Labour party and its leader. Unfortunately Labour has made a decision to boycott Maestro TV and will not give interviews to the TV channel’s reporters,” the Labour Party statement reads.

What problems do regional media face?

As elections are approaching the problems in the media sector appear more frequently. A media analyst and journalist Ia Antadze says that in the forthcoming elections serious pressure will be put on journalists, Rezonansi writes.

The Head of the Regional Media Association, Natia Kuprashvili, says that problems in regional media become more frequent as elections approach. According to her, when the regional TV companies have problems, officials say they are due to "technical reasons".

"This happened with the 25th channel on May 26 when they broadcasted the crackdown of a rally in front of Parliament. The 25th channel was switched off and the explanation by officials was that it was "technical". It is interesting that normally such "technical problems" do not occur,” she said, expressing her hope that for the next elections this will not be the case.
