US Invests in Improvement of Infrastructure throughout Georgia

On December 1, in the village of Kere in Gori district a project funded by the US Agency for International Development was presented. The project is entitled "To improve the infrastructure and economic opportunities and support internally displaced persons." The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure provides implementation for the project. The project includes improving communal infrastructure and living conditions for villagers affected by the 2008 war and their inhabitants, and rehabilitation of irrigation. The presentation was attended by the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ramaz Nikolaishvili, Minister of Agriculture Zaza Gorozia, US Ambassador to Georgia John Bass, the Governor of the Shida Kartli region Giorgi Tatishvili, Director of the Municipal Development Fund Levan Chichinadze, Director of the USAID Mission in the Caucasus Stephen Haikin and other officials. This project provides rehabilitation of irrigation systems for the villages of Tiriponi and Saltvisi (100 km channel), which provides irrigation of 20,000 hectares of land.

The project also includes improvement of infrastructure in five municipalities affected by the war in 2008: the rehabilitation of 3km of internal roads and the water supply building in Oni, the rehabilitation of 12 km of road from Kareli through Sagholasheni to Dvani, the rehabilitation of road Gori-Jvari road along a 1.5 km stretch and the installation of devices of water and riverbank protection works in Gori district, the rehabilitation of roads along a 6km stretch in Mtskheta, and riverbank protection and rehabilitation of streets in Dusheti. In addition, the restoration of houses and improvement of living conditions for internally displaced persons in different parts of the country is included in the project.
