Children should have a right to get free education

Akhali Taoba writes that on businessman-turned-politician Bidzina Ivanishvili’s Facebook page a forum was opened where any Facebook user can leave his/her comment or question on which Ivanishvili answers though the social network. Hundreds of questions have already been written on Ivanishvili’s Facebook wall and most of them concern the social situation, education, elections, unemployment and so on.

One user asked if state schools will be functioning and financed by the state and what is the Ivanishvili's vision regarding the education system. Ivanishvili answers: "I consider that getting an education is a constitutional right of our children. The state should finance not only children at school but students as well. Uneducated people are a problem for society, that is why getting free higher education should be available for our young generation."

Another question was on learning English and about the people who do not know English. “Knowing the English language is very good indeed but knowing the state language (Georgian) should be enough in order for professional and competent persons to find adequate jobs in our country. As for age, I think it should not be an indicator of whether a person should be employed or not, major attention should be paid to the person’s skills and professionalism. For me, the authorities attitude towards this issue on the age of employed people is discrimination which will be interrupted by our government,” Ivanishvili says.
