Georgian Patriarchate releases statement

The Georgian Patriarchate has released a statement regarding the meeting between representatives of the Abkhazian Church with the World Patriarch.

‘Information was published on apsnypress,info that the World Patriarch received representatives of the Abkhazian Church on 9 January. In this regard the Patriarchate of Georgia called to the secretary of the World Patriarch who said he personally appointed the meeting as the Abkhazian side had repeatedly sent several letters asking for an audience with the World Patriarch. The secretary said the above-mentioned persons were given this possibility like any Christian person’, the statement says.

According to the statement, Archimandrite Barthlome categorically denied reports about invitation of the representatives of the Abkhazian Church by the World Patriarch and said it could not be called an official visit or meeting. The Archimandrite said it was clearly said at the Constantinople Synod that Abkhazeti is an integral part of Georgia’, the statement said.

City Hall to monitor commercial transport companies

Deputy Chairperson of the Tbilisi City Hall [Sakrebulo] calls for monitoring of the results how the Tbilisi route taxi provider companies have fulfilled their obligations taken by the tender announced by the City Government. According to the terms of the tender, 3068 minibuses should work on the routes in the capital; however, only 2464 are working currently.

Jaba Samushia calls for imposing fines for violating the terms of the contracts onto the four transport companies with the amount of 300,000 GEL.

The Municipal Transport Service authorities confirm that there were some violations and all four companies have already paid the fines.

In their turn, the transport companies define that all terms of the tenders will be fulfilled by the end of March 2012, adding the violations were caused by the problems in the Ford Company.

Body of Georgian national killed in Italy transported to home

Body of the Georgian citizen killed in Italy about a week ago, has been transported to his home. Revaz Tchuradze, 51, will be buried in the city of Kutaisi in Western Georgia.

As reported, the body with several bullet wounds was found in the town of Bari, where Revaz Tchuradze was running a money transfer office. He is the father of well-known so-called crime boss Temur Tchuradze.

Police is working on several versions of the Georgian national`s death. Family members of the killed man refrain from making any comments.

Georgian nationals detained on charges of prostitution in Turkey

Another group of Georgian nationals has been detained on charges of prostitution in Turkey. Turkish law enforcers have arrested a head of crime group and seven of his accomplices in Canakkale Province. The police had been watching them during one week.

As reported, the police conducted the raid in three different apartments and in result were able to release the Georgian women, who were forcefully engaged in prostitution.

The crime group members were detained in a rented apartment. Their names are kept secret.

As reported, the Georgian nationals are expected to be deported to Georgia in few days.

2 killed in road accident in Samegrelo, Georgia

Two people have been killed in a car accident in Samegrelo Region in Western Georgia. As reported, driver of the vehicle failed to control the steer and consequently the vehicle turned upside down in the accident.

The driver and one passenger died immediately, another passenger was transferred to hospital.

Investigation is underway. According to preliminary reports, the accident was caused by faulty brakes of the vehicle.

Gunmen brke into family in Western Georgia

Two gunmen broke into the house of the Tchanishvili family in the town of Ozurgeti in Western Georgia on Friday. The incident took place Friday night.

Merab Tchanishvili with his wife arrived in Ozurgeti from Moscow few days ago for the funeral ceremony of his mother.

The robbers attacked the husband and wife in the bedroom and physically insulted them, later seizing cash from the house.

At the noise, neighbors called the police, although the offenders could escape before the law enforcers had arrived. Investigation is underway.
