Georgia new Vice-President of the International Bureau of Education of UNESCO

Georgia was elected as the Vice-president of the International Bureau of Education of UNESCO for the second time. UNESCO’s choice is in direct recognition of the achievements of the current educational reforms implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. As the recent research conducted by the International Organization of Sociological Research, GELAP, shows, 67% of the Georgian population supports and trusts current reforms of the educational system.

The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, and the Secretary-General of the National Commission of UNESCO, Ketevan Kandelaki, held a briefing for the press on this issue.

Considering the importance of the role of Georgia in the implementation of the activities of the International Bureau of Education of UNESCO, Georgia has been re-elected as the vice-president for the new term (2012-2013) by the majority of votes. Norway has been also elected as the president country of IBE for the second time.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia will continue active participation in the meetings and seminars of International Bureau of Education. The Ministry stands ready to contribute to the implementation of the IBE strategy that is focused on increasing of the quality and accessibility of education worldwide.
