Few exports made in Georgia

Georgia imports more than four times the amount it exports, and most of those exports are not Georgian products. Though exports increased slightly in 2011, in absolute figures there is little growth. Georgia's largest export is scrap metal, which is generally a re-export product. The re-sale of personal vehicles also contributes to the country's exports, but they too are not produced in Georgia and are usually imported before being exported.

Economic analyst and former Minister of the Economy, Lado Papava, recently criticized the Prime Minister's touting of a growth in the export sector, as the increase is not being led by Georgian products.
