New Georgian-produced assault vehicle launched

Monday, March 5
On March 3, the Ministry of Defence presented a Georgian-produced rocket launching vehicle at the Vaziani military firing-ground. Tactical-technical characteristics of the launch vehicle were demonstrated to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia.

The multiple-rocket launcher system is designed to defeat personnel, armoured targets, artillery batteries, command posts, and fortifications.

The combat vehicle is capable of controlling fire without the preliminary preparation of a position and without the help of crew, minimizing salvo time. It has an armoured cab capable of protecting a crew of five.

“We have produced this artillery system and soon we will begin producing its rocket shells,” said President Saakashvili, adding that “the major problem was with liquid fuel, but Georgian engineers have solved this problem for this type of rocket shells".

Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia noted how integral the vehicle is to Georgia's military. "We, historically, suffered a shortage of artillery vehicles, though we always had professional artillerists. From now on we can say that the sophisticated artillery system presented today will meet our armed forces' requirements to a maximum extent, after which we will think about further development and advancement in this direction," he remarked.
