Law against non-citizens organizing protests appealed for second time

The Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) has appealed to the Constitutional Court for the abolishment of the law that prevents citizens of foreign countries from organizing protests in Georgia. The appeal was delivered on April 20.

On April 11, 2011, the Public Defender made a similar appeal and the court struck down the law. It was declared unconstitutional as it discriminates against both citizens of foreign states and stateless persons. However, on July 1 of that year, changes to the Law on Assemblies and Manifestations were made by Parliament, which partially restored the norm.

GLYA intends to see the legislation removed by the court for a second time.
