New communications technology debuts in public schools

Wednesday, April 25
The Ministry of Education and Science has implemented a new project, called "School Boxes", which will enable stable and safe internet communication and assist schools with the execution of additional electronic services.

The main purpose of the new equipment is to assist teachers with continuous internet communication, online assessments, tests, conferences, and video lessons, so that all students have the opportunity to benefit from technology-based learning. At the same time, logistical and technical malfunctions will be eliminated.

The School Box itself is assembled in Georgia, at the Algoritmi factory. Minister of Education and Science Dimitri Shashkini visited the factory Tuesday in order to inspect the assembly process. Almost 100 professional employees install special technical systems into the boxes.

For the first time this year, high school exams will be conducted via the new system. With the new academic year, learning and assessment process will be carried out electronically, with the help of School Boxes. Schools, teachers, and students will receive information online. The new system will also facilitate a tight online relationship amongst schools.

The introduction of School Boxes is especially important for schools in the regions, as it offers the same service and connectivity as urban schools.

The new system will be introduced gradually, with 1500 boxes being distributed in the coming weeks. The project also foresees rehabilitation of existing school infrastructure. This year, 10 000 new computers will be distributed to schools. (MES)
