European Youth Parliament held in Tbilisi last weekend

A school session of the European Youth Parliament was held from April 28-30. The session was opened at the Olymp school and was attended by a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science, Head of National Curriculum and General Education Development Department, Natia Jokhadze. The theme of the session was “Youth as a part of a civil society”.

Almost 80 senior students from 11 public schools participated in a simulated European Parliament session. A General Assembly was held on April 30 at Tbilisi State University.

During the session, students were assigned to different committees and held discussions on real-world issues, after which they drafted resolution and presented them in English. Topics related to existing issues in the European Union, as well as the relationship between Georgia and the EU. All participants were awarded certificates.

The European Youth Parliament, as a school project, was established in France in 1987, and has since garnered great interest across Europe. In 2008, Georgia became an official member. Since then, sessions have been held in Tbilisi, Batumi, Zugdidi, Dusheti, and Borjomi.
