Bakradze visits Samtske-Javaketi to promote government health insurance

Thursday, May 31
Speaker of Parliament Davit Bakradze visited Samtske-Javaketi to discuss the government's affordable healthcare options with socially vulnerable families.

He visited the Geldenidzes, a seven-member family in the village of Adigeni, and personally took them for a medical examination in his car.

Bakradze attended the examinations, being given to local residents at the Adigeni hospital.

"Accessible health care is one of our major priorities and every second citizen will have insurance this year in Georgia,” he said. "This is the beginning of a process and our ultimate goal is to provide insurance to each and every citizen. All families shall have accessible healthcare and medical treatment. It is important that in every region there should be an upgraded hospital, people should be insured and have access to medical treatment in those hospitals, and most importantly, to receive all those services which are financed from the state budget".

The Speaker was interested in whether it is possible to receive all services offered by insurance companies at Adigeni, noting that it is important not only that people are insured, but that beneficiaries could adequately and fully use their health insurance packages.

Bakradze also visited Akhaltsikhe University, where he met with faculty and students. He announced that the government will insure more then two million people in September, including a special insurance plan for students.

Finally, the Speaker visited reconstruction currently underway in the historic district of Rabati. Construction should be complete by August, and include restoration of Rabati Castle.
