Kvareli rehabilitation begins

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ramaz Nikolaishvili and the Governor of Kakheti, Giorgi Gviniashvili, visited the ongoing reconstruction work in Kvareli, implemented thanks to the Kakheti regional development project.

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure is implementing a full rehabilitation of Kvareli with funding from the World Bank and the government of Georgia.

The two main streets of Kvareli - Chavchavadze and Kudigori – will be rehabilitated. Water, sewage, and electricity systems will be restored, drainage channels will be arranged, and outdoor lights that meet European standards will be installed. Bicycle paths are being constructed, and gates and fences will be redone. In addition, the facades of administrative and council buildings will be updated, and nearby parks will be improved.

The rehabilitation of 2-kilometre-long section of road has already begun, as has work on Ilia Lake.

Almost 1000 people will be employed, directly and indirectly, by the project. Rehabilitation is intended to improving living conditions for residents of Kvareli and help develop the tourism sector.
