Georgians struggle to repay loans

There are more than half a million credit agreements issued by local banks and approximately 90% of them are so-called small loans less than 1000 GEL. Larger loans, those that are worth more than 5000 GEL, represented 2% of the total, while the rest are "average-size".

However, Georgians who take out these loans often have trouble paying them back, even the small ones. The number of "bad loans" across the country has already exceeded 60,000.
