Georgian president delivers Compatriot documents to Diaspora residents

Monday, June 18
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili delivered Compatriot Documents to the representatives of Georgian Diasporas on Saturday at his presidential palace in Tbilisi.

After receiving Compatriot status, foreign citizens will be able to receive the compatriot documents in accordance with the law on “Compatriots living abroad and Diaspora organizations”.

Certain privileges will be granted to foreign citizens owning Compatriot status who are in Georgia on the legal base. They will be able to stay in the country for determined period of time, receive general and higher education in Georgia and be employed in public offices on the basis of a work contract.

“It is very important for the Georgian government not to loose our compatriots living abroad, especially those who were born and grew up here. Therefore it is necessary for us to legalize dual citizenship.” President Saakashvili said.
