Wednesday, July 4
Citizenship and migration, as well topical issues of tax legislation were the focus of the educational seminar held on July 2, 2012 at the Ambassador Hotel in Tbilisi. Head of the Legal Aid Service, Irakli Kobidze, addressed the participants before the start of the seminar. Public and private lawyers attended the training held with UNDP assistance.

Led by experienced law experts – Giorgi Amisulashvili, Artur Kazanovi, Sophio Momtsemlidze and Nana Chedia, the seminar participants touched on issues such as the rules of granting and terminating citizenship; the specificities of registering civil acts; tax disputes; special taxation regime; income taxes and others.

The training issues were topical. Frequently citizens apply to LAS consultants with the aim of settling the problems regarding the gaps in civil acts and other documents, unreasonably imposed taxes and so on.

LAS’ 15 regional offices and the public receptions of the penitentiary establishments, provide legal consultations to citizens. For easy access to legal aid, online consultations and mobile legal aid services are created within the LAS. The demand for legal consultations is ever increasing. This year more than 8,200 people benefited from the service, which exceeded the previous year’s indicator by 25%.

The UNDP supports the professional development of LAS employees. It is the fifth seminar held this year with UNDP support.
