Gasprom plans to increase gas prices for Armenia beginning October 1, 2012. If the price of 1,000 cubic meters of Russian gas today is $180, starting in October, the price will be increased and by 2013 it might reach $320 per 1,000 cubic meters. There are current talks underway on behalf of the Armenian government to halt the impending price increase. In February of 2013, Armenia will hold presidential elections and so presumably, the Armenian leadership will do its best to stop Russia from increasing the price of gas before the elections kick off.
