Working Meeting Was Held On Accessible Legal Aid

On 26-27 July in Kutaisi and Batumi, representatives from the Legal Aid Service (LAS), regional media and non-profit organizations held working meeting.

The participants discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of human rights protection.

The events were supported by the United Nations Development Program.

Irakli Kobidze - a director of the Legal Aid Service made detailed presentation on the reforms implemented by the Government of Georgia, as a result of which population was given a chance to benefit from free court representation, legal consultations and assistance in drafting of legal documents.

Irakli Kobidze paid special attention to the regional legal aid network, which unites state and non-governmental organizations with different services. The network aims at providing full package of legal aid to socially vulnerable people. For instance, the LAS lawyers will provide court representation in criminal cases, while NGOs - on civil and administrative cases.

The participants also highlighted media’s role in raising public’s legal awareness. In this regard, LAS representatives were invited to the radio talk-show where they answered on various legal questions that were topical for the local communities.
