“In a few days my dream will come true and the constructing of Lazika will get underway,” President Mikheil Saakashvili announced in Anaklia during a meeting with young people from the Patriots’ Camp. According to him, the idea of Lazika is the idea behind Georgian unity– by building and not destroying. Saakashvili recalled four years ago that the territory of Anaklia was totally burned down by the Russian occupiers and its reconstruction began just two-years ago. Now there is a main boulevard, hotels and camps.

The president was accompanied by Georgia’s Olympic winners. He mentioned Georgian gold medal holder Lasha Shavdatuashvili as one of the strongest from Gori, Karaleti. “This is the youngest Olympian and the youngest team we have ever had,” Saakashvili stated.

Mikheil Saakashvili says that 31 out of the 35 were Georgian debutants on the Olympiad. The president voiced hope that in 4 years, they’ll be a dream team.

“I can’t help boasting that before the Rose Revolution we were in the bronze-age. In 2004, we won our first gold in Athens Olympiad, in the 2008 Beijing Olympics we won 3 gold medals, now we have one gold medal... it is upon luck, but we have three silver and three bronze medals. It is a great result for our small fighting country,” the president added.
