Defacto President of Abkhazia Aleksandre Ankvab stated that the opening of a railway in Abkhazia which will connect Armenia and Russia via the region is less possible. The president underscored there are lots of speculations concerning the issue.

Opening the railway is in Armenian interest first of all. According to Armenian analysts, the country suffers $500 million in losses annually due to closure of the railway.

Ankvab underscored that the Georgian side will allow the opening of the railway if refugees are safely returned to the Gali and Ochamchire regions, if a common check point will function on the river Psou.
