Policemen prepare for dispersing demonstrations

Over the last few days, a massive retraining of police is taking place in the yard of the head of the Security Police in Digomi. Since last Saturday, training exercises featuring police in plain clothes and uniforms have taken place every day. According to various sources, the number of people who are training in the yard is quite large, Rezonansi writes.

Rezonansi spoke to one policeman to confirm this information, but he couldn’t say, for what the police are preparing for.

According to Levan Izoria, Police officers from the regions have been taken to Tbilisi for so-called training. This is reliable and verified information. The sole purpose of this training is the preparation for the dispersal of demonstrations. Izoria couldn’t specify where the trainings are but he suspects in the yards of the security police people are receiving proper training for crowd dispersal.

What kind of influence will NATO Secretary General’s visit have on upcoming elections?

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen stated during his visit to Tbilisi that NATO is continuing its support for the democratic development of Georgia and the upcoming elections in Georgia will be a test for democracy, Rezonansi writes.

Publicist Vasil Maghlaperidze thinks that one cannot connect Rasmussen’s visit with the elections. He says that this was a usual visit in the framework of Rasmussen’s S. Caucasus tour, adding that his statement that the elections will be a test for Georgia’s democracy is very interesting indicating the organization’s interest in the country.

Gia Bughadze, a painter, says that the NATO Secretary General’s visit is important for such a small country as Georgia, although it does not mean that he supports any particular political leader or a party. “It means that he supports the state and that is why he has encouraged that the elections be held democratically,” he says.
