Climate Change Week in Georgia

The International Organization Mercy Corps and CENN - Caucasus Environmental NGO Network, within the scope of the Program Regional Cooperation for Climate Change-Adaptation and Biodiversity Conservation in Georgia and the South Caucasus, funded by the European Union with EURO 1 million, will be participating in Climate Change Week activities in Georgia, which will take place on 21-28th of October, 2012.

The purpose of Climate Change Week in Georgia is to raise the general public’s awareness of Climate Change related issues and to enhance involvement of society in the process of understanding Climate Change’s impacts mitigation and adaptation. This annual event will be organized by The Greens Movement Georgia / Friends of the Earth - Georgia for the fourth time in our country. Climate Change Week is being organized with financial support of the European Commission Delegation to Georgia.

The slogan of the Climate Change Week is: Change one small thing – one by one, ton by ton!

As the Program targets trans-boundary regions of Armenia and Azerbaijan, this Event will broaden to these regions as well. One particular school will be selected in the target area of these countries (Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan) and the local knowledge gathering on climate change campaign will be initiated. The activity will be driven by the school children. The pupil who will give the most interesting demonstrations, with interesting results will receive the special prize for that.

Media support for this event will be ensured through TV Channel News programs, Radio programs, Internet Newspapers and local press in Program area.

The Program plans to participate in the Climate Change Week through the promotion of a Children’s Art Exhibition “Children and Nature” in seven target Municipalities of Georgia: Dedoplistskaro, Signagi, Sagarejo, Marneuli, Bolnisi, Dmanisi and Ninotsminda. During the Exhibition the school children, authors of drawings on exhibit, will be rewarded with Honorable Certificates and special gifts prepared for them by the implementing organizations.
