Many analysts, journalists and environmental experts highlight the dramatic situation in regards to forest policy in Georgia. During the Shevardnadze administration and during the Rose administration as well, cutting of wood in Georgian forests became very dramatic if not tragic. Many environmental specialists think that many natural calamities, such as flooding, landslides and similar were the results of the careless approach of the responsible officials, as well as the irresponsible population towards nature and forests in particular. It was a surprise when some years ago, the forests came under the control of ministry of energy, rather than stay under the control of the ministry of environment. This would not happen however if the general approach towards the issue would have from the beginning benefited the country, its nature and eventually its future.
