As the Head of the Georgian National Wine Agency, Levan Davitashvili stated, since the embargo was lifted a month ago, more than 1 million bottles of alcohol, mainly wine, was sent to the Russian market. By the end of this year, presumably more than 5 million bottles of wine will be transported. Davitashvili hopes that the demand on Georgian wines will increase during the New Year celebration in Russia. Georgian officials also stated that in the first year (by next spring) Georgia will provide Russia with more than 10 million bottles of wine. However, this number is still four times less than Georgia was exporting to Russia by 2006 before the embargo would have been imposed. More and more Georgian companies are receiving the special permission to enter the Russian market.
