The Amateur Student Theaters' Association presents the International Festival: The Mask – 2013.

This is an annual festival for amateur student theaters established in 2012 which gives a unique opportunity for theater troupes of various universities to present their plays to a jury.

The festival aims to ensure communication among universities, the sharing of experience and the development of professional relations, as well as promoting art among young people and making students’ lives more interesting.

One of the organizers of the festival, Zizi Margalitadze, said the idea of establishing an amateur student theatre was born three years ago. “There are theatre troupes at almost every university,” Margalitadze said stressing that the organizers thus wanted to create a place for them to meet, become friends and show their skills.

The first festival held last December 7th-10th was a success. Acting troupes from six Georgian universities from Tbilisi and Batumi took part. This year the festival will host student troupes not only from Georgia (Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi), but also Turkey and Azerbaijan.

The acting troupes of Tbilisi State Medical University, Caucasus International University, Georgian National University, Grigol Robakidze University, Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, Tbilisi State University as well as acting troupes from Turkey and Azerbaijan will present their plays from November 26th-December 5th.

All participants are non-professional actors. The jury has professional members such as directors Gogi Todadze and Jaba Papuashvili, actresses Nino Tarkhanmouravi, Eka Molodinashvili and Tamuna Nikoladze, actor Jaba Kiladze, theatre critic Nika Tsulukidaze and Tbilisi City Hall representative Akaki Sturua.

There will not be a single winner of the festival as the jury will award 10 students.

The festival venue is the third building of the Medical University (Vazha-Pshavela 29). The award ceremony will be held at TBC Gallery.

The general sponsor of the festival is Tbilisi City Hall. Tbilisi State Medical University, TBC Bank, Hotel Lopota, Radio Apkhazetis Khma (The Voice of Abkhazia) and Radio Dardimandi are also festival sponsors.
