SOCAR: TANAP able to meet Europe’s gas needs

Tuesday, November 26
TANAP is able to meet Europe's gas requirements, Head of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev said today, Turkish newspaper Zaman reported.

According to Abdullayev, Azerbaijan's gas reserves hit more than three trillion cubic meters which promotes the development of the export potential of the country.

He stressed that Azerbaijan's export potential will be at least 40-45 billion cubic meters in 2025 after new gas sources are used.

"There is a need in the new gas pipeline to export gas in such volumes," he said.

Abdullayev said that at the first stage the volume of gas to be transported through the TANAP gas pipeline will be 16 billion cubic meters.

"In the future, the possibility of increasing the gas supply through TANAP to 30 billion cubic meters will be considered," Abdullayev added.

TANAP envisages transporting gas from the Shah Deniz field to Europe via Turkey. The initial capacity of the pipeline is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters per year. About six billion cubic meters will be supplied to Turkey and the rest delivered to Europe.
