Tbilisi Mayor presents new officials

By Tatia Megeneishvili
Friday, March 13
Mayor of Tbilisi Davit Narmania presented his deputies and district governors on March 12. Now it is up to the Tbilisi City Hall (Sakrebulo) to confirm the nominees. The Georgian Dream (GD) coalition holds the majority of seats at the City Hall Council.

Former first Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitri Kumsishvili was presented as the first Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi.

Kumsishvili will replace Alexander Margishvili, who has become the chairman of the Mayor’s office Center for Promotion of Entrepreneurship.

Irakli Lekvinadze is Namania’s pick as a new deputy mayor, replacing Aluda Goglichidze.

Lekvinadze is a lecturer at Ilia’s State University. He is also known to the public for his analyses on economic-related issues. Narmania described him as an experienced professional who will provide benefits to the Mayor’s Office and public.

Three other deputy mayors, Giorgi Solomonia, Giorgi Khelaia and Nina Khatiskatsi remained in their positions.

Narmania also nominated Lasha Abashidze, the former Chief of President Giorgi Margvelashvili’s administration, as the new governor of Tbilisi’s Vake district. Abashidze replaced Givi Tchitchinadze, who was appointed as the Imereti region governor in February.

“I am sure that all the candidates I presented will be approved by the Tbilisi City Hall, because the all are worthy people” stated Narmania.

The opposition has demanded the summoning of Narmania to answer their questions over the reshuffle. They accused him of nepotism and bribery-related offenses. However, the opposition lacked the necessary number of votes to fulfill the demand.
