Producer Price Index for Industrial Products in Georgia -March 2015

In March 2015 the Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products posted a 1.0 percent increase over February 2015. The index increased 7.2 percent compared to March 2014 and 74.4 percent over 2005 average. The monthly change of the March PPI was mainly due to a 0.8 percent price increase for manufacturing, resulting in 0.69 percentage point contribution to the overall index percent change. The price increases were recorded for manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products (2.3 percent) and manufacture of paper and publishing (4.7 percent). Along with this, in the reporting period prices decreased for manufacture of chemical products (-4.3 percent) and manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (-1.2 percent). The change in annual PPI rate was mainly attributable to the price change for the following sections: • Manufacturing prices increased 9.3 percent and the corresponding upward effect of the section on the overall index change amounted to 7.61 percentage points. In the reporting period the price increases were recorded for manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products (16.5 percent), manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (7.7 percent) and manufacture of paper and publishing (32.5 percent). The prices dropped for manufacture of chemical products (-19.9 percent); • Supply of electricity, gas and water: the prices decreased 3.4 percent and contributed -0.44 percentage points to the overall index.
