Powerful storm destroys crops in eastern Georgia

Tuesday, June 9
Experts in Georgia’s Kakheti and Shida Kartli regions are evaluating the damage caused by major hailstorm and heavy rain the day before yesterday.

In six villages in Kakheti, Georgia’s famous wine-making area, hail completely destroyed several vineyards. Strong wind left several family houses without roofs.

In Shida Kartli, rainstorm destroyed crops, killed poultry and livestock and flooded houses. Roads in the area were also blocked by debris.

A swollen river uprooted a water pipeline in the village of Skra in Gori district, which left the local population without drinking water.

Locals in Dusheti district said their harvest was completely destroyed and asked for help from the local government.
