Swiss Embassy offers online visa applications

The Swiss Embassy has claimed that the visa applicants will be able to make an online appointment for the submission of the visa applications from August 3, 2015.

The Embassy said that applicants who want short-term visas (up to 90 days) such as for tourist or business purposes (ie. A Schengen visa) they will have the possibility to make an online appointment in the consular on their website www.swiss-visa.ch

However, the site warns applicants to keep in mind that a visa application may be submitted at the earliest three months before their planned trip.

“Applications for long-term visas (over 90 days, National Visa) must be filed directly with the responsible Swiss representation abroad,” the embassy says.

They also stated that after making online appointments, applicants will have to appear in Consulate personally to go through the interview, to present printed application and other documents, to pay the visa fee and to register their biometric data (fingerprints).

According to the website, the online system currently is in a pilot phase and online applications and online appointments are available only for the Swiss representations in “Sydney” and “San Francisco” at the moment.

“Some minor errors or bugs may occur during the processing of the application. They will be corrected in due time. We thank you for your understanding,” the website writes.
